My sister and I were having a conversation last week and discussed why it's not usual to send flowers to men as a romantic gesture. It seems strange that in these times of progressive thinking, gender equality and aversion to stereotypes, men still rarely get sent flowers by their significant others. I wondered, is it because men don't want to receive flowers? Is it because women don't want to send them in fear of insulting their masculinity? Or is is something else entirely?
I decided to set up a Twitter poll, asking the question, "Men - if your significant other sent you flowers, would you appreciate?". I figured that this would at least give me a small insight into the reasons we don't send flowers to men. So, the results are in, drum roll please............................!
A whopping 13 people voted in the poll (okay, so it's not quite the conclusive research I was hoping for!) and it seems that it's pretty even - 46% of male respondents said that they wouldn't appreciate flowers and 54% said that they would. So by a small margin it seems that if you send the man in your life some flowers, he may well love them, that's very good news!
Why not break the stereotype and send your significant other, dad, brother, cousin, granddad, friend or colleague some flowers? We would love to hear your opinion, leave a comment below and let us know what you think............
